Edwin Njeru — a mechanical engineer and a business strategist — pooled his savings and founded Ascend Solar out of a shared frustration. He had watched small businesses and families lose thousands of shillings to power cuts and rising KPLC bills. He believed solar wasn’t a luxury — it was the practical, affordable answer.
With a secondhand van and a determination to do things properly, he installed their first 12 residential systems in Nairobi’s Westlands and Kilimani neighbourhoods.
Today, over 1,800 installations later Ascend is still growing and continues to install clean power running across homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals — Ascend Solar is the most trusted solar company in East Africa. The mission hasn’t changed since day one: make clean, reliable energy accessible to every home and business that needs it. We’re not done yet.
